Venues and groups behind the expansion
Organizers book the Cactus Theater on Buddy Holly Avenue for Thursday night readings and the Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts on 7th Street for Saturday workshops. The same participants also run free printmaking sessions at the Overton branch library on Tuesday evenings. These locations sit within walking distance of one another, allowing attendees to move between events on foot rather than drive across the city.
The Lubbock Creative Collective lists 87 active members on its internal roster, up from 34 when the group formed in September 2025. Members rotate duties such as promotion and cleanup, keeping costs under $200 per event through donated materials and volunteer labor.
Numbers that track the change
City records show neighborhood exhibition permits rose from 41 in the first half of 2025 to 67 in the same period this year. Ticket prices for these shows average $12, compared with $28 at established downtown galleries. The next public meeting of the Collective is set for July 14 at 6:30 p.m. in the Tech Terrace community room, where new participants can sign up for August slots.
